type='text'>Your Daily Dose of Antioxidants

Antioxidant - it's a word that floats around quite a bit in the "wellness universe." While most of us have a general idea that Antioxidants are good for us, we probably aren't too sure about what it is that they do, so here's a crash course:
An antioxidant is a molecule that prevents the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation can produce "free radicals" that start chain reactions that can damage or kill cells. Antioxidants terminate these destructive chain reactions. Sounds like a good thing, right?
Antioxidant based drugs are currently used to treat lung disease, malaria and even the common cold. The medical community has also had great deal of hope for antioxidants in the treatment and prevention of cancer, but this idea hasn't been definitively proven – until now!

Researchers from Jefferson's Kimmel Cancer Center have found genetic evidence suggesting that Antioxidants can help prevent and treat cancer because they fight against mitochondrial oxidative stress—a culprit in driving tumor growth. The study's lead researcher Michael P. Lisanti, M.D., Ph.D. says "Now that we have genetic proof that oxidative stress and resulting autophagy are important for driving tumor growth, we should re-consider using antioxidants and autophagy inhibitors as anti-cancer agents."
So what exactly does all of this have to do with Gano Excel? Because the feet and hands help set the tension level for the rest of the body they are an easy way to interrupt the stress signal and reset homeostasis, the body's equilibrium.
Whether reflexology can benefit certain conditions and diseases in still under investigation. Further scientific study need to be done in order to come to some definite benefits of reflexology in regard to illness and disease.
Reflexology is a complement to standard medical care. In fact, one out of every two men over the age of 40 experiences erectile dysfunction... bet that's news to you!
By making easy-to-follow, natural and scientifically validated lifestyle changes, men can easily slow and even reverse the loss of testosterone and in the process enjoy their middle and later years with the kind of zest they displayed in their youth.
Writing by Brad King, author of Beer Belly Blues

Water or Coke????

I could not believe this..... Very interesting
WATER
#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated..
(Likely applies to half the world population)
#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
that it is mistaken for hunger.
#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.
#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
Washington study.
#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.
#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a printed page.
#8.. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop
bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water
you should drink every day?
COKE
#1. In many states the highway patrol carries
two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
the highway after a car accident.
#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
and it will be gone in two days.
#3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
toilet bowl and let the 'real thing' sit for one hour,
then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
stains from vitreous china.
#4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
#5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
away the corrosion.
#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
#7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix
with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
#8... To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke
into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
through a regular cycle.. The Coca-Cola will help loosen
grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your
windshield.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION:
#1 the active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.
#2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the
commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place
cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.
#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
engines of the trucks for about 20 years!
Now the question is, would you like a glass of water?
or Coke?

5 Foods That Help You Lose Weight by Melanie Haiken, Caring.com

Don’t get sucked into the idea that food is your enemy when you’re trying to lose weight. In fact, it’s just the opposite: Befriend the right foods, and the pounds are much more likely to peel off than if you just try to cut calories across the board. Here, five foods known by nutritionists to boost your body’s fat-burning potential
1. Oats
Wait a minute; aren’t oats a carb? Yes and no. Oats are a whole grain, and they’re high on what nutritionists call the “satiety index,” meaning oats have tremendous power to make you feel full. Not only that, they’re also high in soluble fiber, so they cut cholesterol and blood fat. Oats digest slowly, so they don’t raise your blood sugar, and they keep you feeling filled up well into the late morning. Old-fashioned steel-cut and rolled oats, with up to 5 grams of fiber per serving, are best, but even instant oatmeal has 3 to 4 grams of fiber per serving.
2. Apples
To keep the pounds at bay, eat an apple–or two–a day. Numerous studies have found that eating an apple a half hour to an hour before a meal has the result of cutting the calories of the meal. Why? The fiber in the apple makes you feel full, so you eat less. Recent research suggests eating apples has other benefits, too; the antioxidants in apples appear to prevent metabolic syndrome, the combination of high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and prediabetes that tends to accompany thickening around the waist. Also, apples are high in pectin, which binds with water and limits the amount of fat your cells can absorb
3. Eggs
Nutritionists have been trying for some years to restore the reputation of the lowly egg. No longer thought to be a cholesterol-booster (eggs contain a different type of cholesterol than that in humans), eggs are a concentrated form of animal protein without the added fat that comes with meat. Dietary studies have repeatedly found that when people eat an egg every morning in addition to (or instead of) toast or cereal, they lose twice as much weight as those who eat a breakfast that’s dominated by carbs.
4. Cinnamon
This simple spice appears to have the power to help your body metabolize sugar, according to surprising data that came out of a USDA study involving diabetics. Eating as little as 1/4 to 2 teaspoons of cinnamon a day was found to reduce blood sugar levels and cut cholesterol from 10 to 25 percent. So add cinnamon to smoothies, sprinkle it on your cereal, or flavor your coffee with it.
5. Almonds and Almond Butter
Another counter intuitive choice; aren’t nuts and nut butters supposed to be incredibly fattening? Well, almonds are calorie-dense, but they also pack a huge nutritional punch–and they’re particularly effective in counteracting cholesterol and triglycerides. One study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that eating almonds was as effective as taking a statin. Spreading almond butter on your morning toast gives you a nice protein boost while preventing the carbs in the toast from spiking your blood sugar

The Salt of the Earth: Its Probably Not What’s on your table.

Recently, a lot of information has been brought to my attention about the importance of getting good quality salt in your diet. I imagine you’re shaking your head; we always hear that we’re supposed to avoid salt.
It appears salt has gotten a bad rap. Like all things your body needs to survive, too much – or the wrong type – can be a problem. Recent research associates salt with strokes, calcium deficiency and osteoporosis, fluid retention, weight gain, stomach ulcers and stomach cancer. But all this research points to refined, processed, chemically altered, common table salt, or refined sea salt – but not unaltered holistic, mineral-rich crystal salt.
Essentially, every cell in the human body depends on the presence of sodium. We find sodium diffused throughout the fluid between the cells. And each cell is like a small ocean containing salty water. Inside the cells we find primary potassium. These two minerals – sodium and potassium – need to be in constant, dynamic balance so the cells can exchange incoming energy with outgoing, depleted fuel.

Sodium (Na+) and potassium (K+) are two of the primary electrolytes. The others are calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), chloride (Cl-), phosphate (PO43-) and hydrogen carbonate (HCO3-), plus other significant mineral salts. Electrolytes regulate the hydration of the body, blood pH, blood pressure and are crucial for nerve and muscle function. The muscle tissue and neurons are considered electric tissues, able to conduct electricity. It’s the electrolyte activity in the body that activates the muscles to contract.

Without sufficient levels of the key electrolytes, muscle weakness or severe muscle contractions may occur. Electrolyte balance is normally maintained by eating salt or drinking electrolyte-containing substances.

Water and salt regulate every metabolic function of the body, including functions of solid matter itself. Your body is constantly monitoring these minerals and working to maintain their delicate balance. Without salt, it is said, we couldn’t exist for a moment.

Not all Salt is the Same

There is a tremendous difference between table salt and crystal salt. In its natural state, salt consists primarily of the elements sodium and chloride, but it also contains up to 82 other naturally occurring minerals.

Manufacturers of table salt view these important trace elements as impurities. So, since the advent of industrial development, most of the salt we use has been stripped of its inherent mineral content through a process that “chemically cleanses” and reduces it to only its most fundamental elements, sodium and chloride.

This table salt is not a natural element and is considered poison to the body. Additionally, additives increase the salt’s aggressive profile. As common as iodized salt is to our tables, so are the number of diseases attributed to it. The body recognizes this chemically enriched sodium chloride as toxic, and tries to get rid of it as quickly as possible. This causes a constant overburden on our excretive organs.

Other processed foods that we eat aggravate this situation. In almost every refined product, salt is used as part of the preservation process. So, in today’s normal diet, the body receives more salt than it can get rid of.

The body now ties to isolate the overdose of salt. In this process, water molecules surround the sodium chloride in order to neutralize it by ionizing it into sodium and chloride. For this process, water is extracted from our cells; the body has to sacrifice its most precious cell water in order to neutralize our salt intake. The dehydrated body cells die.

Natural, unrefined salt crystals – with all of their important trace elements – behave differently in the body. Here are just a few of the claimed benefits of pure crystal salt,
when consumed properly:

• Regulates your blood pressure, in conjunction with water
• Extracts excess acidity from your body’s cells, particularly the brain cells
• Balances the sugar levels in the blood
• Generates hydroelectric energy in your body’s cells
• Enhances adsorption of nutrients through the intestinal tract
• Clears mucous plugs and sticky phlegm in the lungs, particularly in those afflicted
with asthma and cystic fibrosis
• Clears up congestion of the sinuses
• Provides your body with a strong natural antihistamine
• Regulates sleep
• Prevents gout
• Helps the kidney to pass excess acidity into the urine
• Is a strong anti-stress element for the body
• Helps maintain muscle tone and strength
• Strengthens bone structure (Osteoporosis, in many ways, is a result of salt and
water shortage in the body)
• Prevents muscle cramps

The information on salt is interesting and worth digging into further. When I first heard this information, I shook my head too, because it never ceases to amaze me how much conflicting information there is out there when it comes to health and proper nutrition. In my research on salt, I found this quote. Be well.
“.. all of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and , therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And, when we go back to the sea. ..we are going back to whence we came.” -John F. Why did brain cancer shoot up? Evidence suggests that it is because of artificial sweeteners such as those found in diet drinks and food.
Scientists noticed that in 1983 humans began consuming something never before consumed by humans — aspartame, a chemically created substance acting as a sugar alternative used in diet drinks, food, and even on the table in most restaurants (i.e. NutraSweet, Crystallite, Equal). Increase in Aspartame, Increase in Brain Cancer
According to the documentary, in 1984, one year after its introduction, 6.9 million pounds of aspartame were consumed by Americans. In the next year, that number doubled. It continued increasing into the ’90s. This spike in Aspartame consumption parallels the spike in brain cancer.
From 1984-1987, other cancers outside the brain basically remained the same or declined. However, brain cancer rates shot up.

Scientists confirmed that the increase in brain cancers is not due to technological advancements that made diagnosing brain cancer easier and it is not a result of changes in disease classifications.
Why is it suggested that aspartame has this neurological effect?
Scientists think that it is because 10 percent of the chemical substance, after ingestion, becomes free methyl alcohol (wood alcohol), which as one scientist in the film states, is a “real poison.” Another says, “the poisonous effect of methyl alcohol and its methyl esters are well-known.” Even small amounts of this poison can lead to blindness and death. The “miniscule” amounts in our common foods and drinks seem to sometimes lead to cancer and other neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis.
Bottom line — maybe it’s time to cut artificial sweeteners out of your diet!

Flu Shot Data

Here is a link to Dr Mercola's FREE report "Forget the Flu Shot, Here's how you REALLY prevent the Flu!" Not so! “There is no link between benign breast lumps and caffeine,” declares Dixie J. Mills, M.D., Clinical research director for the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation in Santa Monica, CA. What’s more Swedish scientists just discovered that caffeine in coffee hampers the growth of abnormal cells. Even Better: Downing two to three cups a day may delay – even prevent-breast cancer in some women, thanks to compounds in coffee that effect estrogen levels, reducing your risk of developing the more common form of the disease, estrogen-dependent cancer. Bonus: “coffee’s antioxidants help lower your risk of type 2 diabetes and Parkinson’s disease,” says Dave Grotto, R.D.,.D.N., author of 101 Foods That Could Save Your Life. Maybe this is because most of us are right handed, but it seems to be the norm. If you do the muscle testing after this hug, you'll find that your muscle is weaker, meaning your energy level is down. However, when we hug left cheek to left cheek instead, the muscle testing shows that we are stronger, or that our energy level is up. Why is this? When we hug on the right side, we're connecting liver to liver. Our liver is where we hold our anger, so we are actually sharing our anger with each other for a brief moment. That weakens our energy. On the other hand, when we hug left to left, we connect at our heart centers, where we hold our love. So for that brief moment, we are sharing our love from that place in our hearts. Try it, and see if you can feel the difference!

Why cut Sodium

You don’t have to overhaul your diet to lower your blood pressure – setting down the salt shaker may be enough. Scientists at Shiarz University in L\Iran asked 60 adults with high blood pressure levels to refrain from salting their foods and eating obviously salted snacks, such as potato chips and salted peanuts. That’s because watermelon is nature’s richest source of lycopene, an antioxidant that scavenges the UV-induced free radicals that cause sunburn and wrinkling. Note: lycopene also support prostrate health for men.

Sound Slumber

Eating a few slices of the fruit after dinner can extend deep stages of sleep by 27 percent, say scientists at the National Institutes of Health. The item that provides this push is the watermelon’s polysaccharide carbohydrates rev the body’s output of serotonin. When levels of this neurotransmitter rise at night, the brain is less sensitive to disruptive stimuli (like noise) during sleep.

Boundless Pep

A daily serving of watermelon has been shown to hoist energy levels by up to 23 percent. Part of the credit goes to the fruit’s vitamin B6, which the body uses to synthesize feel-good dopamine. Plus, watermelon’s magnesium assists in the body’s formation of adenosine triphosphate. Like a rechargeable battery, this nucleotide fuels cellular function for all-day zip.

Rapid Healing

Consuming watermelon ensures quick recovery from summertime scrapes. The fruit is packed with amino acid citrulline, which the body converts to arginine. Arginine speeds the delivery of white blood cells to injury sites, plus spurs the growth of new skin tissue. Ganoderma contains more than 200 active elements that are known to improve health. Here are a few that modern science is currently focusing on:

Polysaccharides
·Strengthen the body’s immune system
·Balance blood sugar level and improves pancreatic functions
·Protects against degeneration of skin cells and eliminates dead surface cells which improves skin texture and reduces the appearance of aging
·Controls destruction of healthy cells throughout the body
·Eliminates accumulated toxins

Organic Germanium
.Increases oxygen in the blood system

·Reduces fatigue and increases vitality
·Strengthens the immune system

·Increases the metabolism
·Contains an abundance of anti-oxidants that control or inhibit damaging free radicals. (Free radicals are a major cause of cell degeneration, cancer and aging).
·Assists our body’s natural ability to fight cancer cells

Adenosine
·Reduces cholesterol and body fat
·Helps to unclog arteries plugged with fatty deposits, and supports liver function
·Balances the metabolic rate and boosts energy
·Prevents fragmentation of platelets which can cause blockages in the circulatory system

Triterpenoid
·Fortifies and improves the digestive system
·Inhibits allergies, relieves sinus congestion, and helps with respiratory problems
·Reduces cholesterol and fat

Ganoderic Essence
·Rejuvenates the body’s tissues and cells
·Boosts all the body’s functions
·Helps to maintain youthfulness and contributes to improved vitality
·Overcomes skin disorders and beautifies the skin
·Is effective for relieving external problems such as scrapes, skin wounds, psoriasis, bug bites, stings, sunburn, mouth ulcers, and external bleeding.

Plus, the scientific documented research on the effect of Ganoderma lucidum on cancer cells, HIV, diabetes and blood pressure is amazing. Ganoderma has no known side-effects! You can read more about Ganoderma lucidum on the National Medical Library Publication website, www.pubmed.com. For thousands of years, Ganoderma Lucidum has been highly regarded by the Chinese as the "Miraculous King of Herbs."

You can drink coffee and be healthy, too!

Finally you, too, can benefit from the miracle of Ganoderma If you are interested in more information on this product you can contact:

Clare Sheufelt

(517) 414-0965
                                         http://www.drinkcoffeeloseweight.us/

Why 8 -8oz glasses of water per Day

Dr. Chet says:

How Is 8 x 8 Justified?
Let’s get back to the original question of the eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. Is it justified? Let's look at a basic physiology textbook, such as Guyton’s Textbook of Medical Physiology (1). You find in a section in the chapter on fluid balance that they talk about how much water we lose every day under normal conditions:

Skin (not from sweat)--12 ounces

Lungs--12 ounces

Sweat--4 ounces (without exercise)

Feces--4 ounces

Urine--48 ounces

Total: 80 ounces per day. And remember, that’s without sweating due to exercise or high heat and humidity.

The recommended 8 x 8 would provide 64 ounces, and that means we would be 16 ounces short based on typical fluid loss, even before your daily exercise routine. That’s why eight 8-ounce glasses of fluid per day is still a good idea. Notice I said fluid. Tea, coffee, sports and energy drinks, soft drinks, juice--all fluids count toward that total.

There’s one more thing that you’ll probably read somewhere and that’s the water in fruits and vegetables counts toward that total. I agree, but most of us eat only three or four servings of fruits and vegetables per day, if that. Let’s say you start your day with an orange; that’s four ounces of fluid. Later, with your dinner, you have a medium baked potato along with a cup of broccoli; that would add four ounces and three ounces respectively. Then let’s say you top it off with a banana--another three ounces. From the foods you ate, you got 14 ounces of water--you still need another 66 ounces. And that’s why eight 8-ounce glasses of fluid per day is still a good idea. Now you know why. Bottoms up!

References:

Guyton and Hall. Textbook of Medical Physiology. 10th Edition. W.B. Saunders. Researches discovered that women over 40 and older who had greater amounts of C were 11% less likely to develop wrinkles. Rather than endure another heart surgery, Barney put his clothes back on and went home. The last words from his cardiologists after he fired them and walked out the door was, "You could die, Barney."
Through his research he discovered the works of Nobel Laureate Dr. Linus Pauling, Nobel Laureate Otto Warburg, Dr. Keith Brewer and others. Their common thread was "Orthomolecular" medicine which is the study of health through nutrition at the cellular level. Orthomolecular protocol could be described as giving back to the body that with which it was born and the body will heal itself. Through that knowledge he found the cure for his hearth disease.
Barney is more alive than ever and desires to share his life changing discoveries with others. He founded Advanced Scientific Health (ASH) in October 2002 to do just that. ASH Members reside in every state in the United States and many other countries. All ASH Members are themselves researchers. ASH Members share their research so that more lives can be saved. Through the study and implementation of "Orthomolecular" science, diseases such as Heart Disease, Cancer, Diabetes, Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons, to the common cold can be prevented simply by giving the body the nutrients it need.

Advantages of Organic Produce

A short article in the June 2008 Prevention Magazine (pg 79) stated that the percentage increase of antioxidant activity conventional apples increased from 9 to 34 percent for organic apples. WOW!!! How can you find organic produce to take advantage of this increase. When you shop the produce section of your grocery store look for the sticker that id's the item. If it has a four digit number it is conventional, HOWEVER if the number starts with a 9 and is 5 digits long it’s Organic, Check to see if you can find items starting with 9 that are your favorites. The local stores here in lower central Michigan are carrying several items of produce. Ask the produce manger for help if you can not find them. They are very willing to help and will order if enough requests are received.
Eating Better -- Clare

Mind Body Spirit Festival

Looking for a place to have fun and learn about new healthy practices and products..

The upcoming spring Mind Body Spirit Festival is the place to go.

The Body Mind Spirit Festival!

The location is the Sports & Expo Center of Macomb Community College in Warren, Mich

Reiki with Chemo

In a recent article in Prevention Magazine, It was stated that Reiki (an energy relaxation process) could easy the problems cancer patients have going through Chemo treatments.
